About Fuel Prices Australia
Why this site exists and how it works
Why This Exists
I'm Mike, and I run Fuel Prices Australia as part of the RefDat network. The big state fuel apps (FuelCheck NSW, FuelWatch WA, etc.) do their jobs well in their own states, but there's no single place that pulls everything together with the context most drivers actually want: how does this price compare to the national average, what's happening in nearby suburbs, and should I be looking at an EV instead.
This site fills that gap. It pulls live data from the official state APIs, rolls it up by suburb, state and fuel type, and adds the comparisons that help you decide whether to fill up here or drive 5 minutes further.
What You Can Do Here
- Compare prices by suburb: every NSW and ACT suburb has its own page with the cheapest stations, suburb averages, and how it stacks up against the state.
- Track fuel types separately: E10, Unleaded 91, Premium 95, Premium 98, Diesel, Premium Diesel, and LPG each get their own ranking page.
- Use the EV savings calculator: plug in your driving distance and current fuel type, get a realistic estimate of switching to electric.
- Compare two suburbs side by side on the comparison page.
- Check the outage tracker when stations are down for refuels or supply issues.
How the Data Works
Prices come from the official NSW FuelCheck API, which is updated by stations themselves and refreshed twice daily on this site. ACT is included in the NSW feed. Individual station prices can lag 1 to 3 days behind real-time depending on when the station reports.
We do not scrape, we do not estimate, and we do not display prices we cannot verify. If a station has not reported in a while, you will see a dash rather than a stale guess. Fuel pricing is volatile and this site shows you the most recent confirmed number, not a prediction.
What We Are Not
This is not a replacement for filling up your tank with your own eyes on the bowser. Prices can change between the time the station reports and the time you pull in. Always check the price board before pumping. We are also not a payment app, a loyalty program, or a station finder with directions. We are a reference site for prices and trends, plus the tools you need to think about your fuel costs over a year, not just a tank.
Other states (VIC, QLD, WA, SA, TAS, NT) are on the roadmap as their data sources get wired up. NSW and ACT are the first phase.
